Hawkeye Seeds Senior Housing Platform with $175 Million Commitment

AUSTIN, TX (January 12, 2015) — Hawkeye Partners, LP (“Hawkeye”), a leading real estate private equity firm, announced today that it has committed $175 million from its Scout Program (“Scout”) to Blue Moon Capital Partners LLC (“Blue Moon”) to seed Blue Moon Senior Housing I LP (“BMSH I”). BMSH I will acquire, reposition and develop senior housing products throughout the United States.

Scout is a series of real estate private equity funds managed by Hawkeye that invest in, and support the development of, new and emerging managers (“New Managers”). Hawkeye is currently investing Scout Fund II and anticipates seeding more New Manager platforms. Scout Fund II is a follow-on vehicle to the highly successful Scout Fund I, which backed four New Manager platforms and is a top performing funds in its vintage. The New Manager platforms seeded by Scout Fund I have grown in excess of $3.3 billion in real estate related assets under management.

Headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts, Blue Moon is a newly formed company that will focus exclusively on the senior housing sector. Blue Moon is led by senior housing specialist Kathryn Sweeney and industry veteran and capital markets specialist Susan Barlow. They are joined by several key members of their former investment teams and other senior housing industry veterans. Claudia Faust, Managing Partner of Hawkeye, stated: “We are very pleased about this investment. Senior housing is a property type that institutional investors have limited exposure to and one where the fundamentals should remain favorable for the foreseeable future. Blue Moon’s team has an exceptional track record of investing in the sector.”

“Scout Fund II’s commitment and sponsorship provides Blue Moon with an extraordinary opportunity to establish a best in class investment platform focused exclusively on the senior housing sector.” said Blue Moon’s Managing Partner Kathryn Sweeney. “The endorsement by Hawkeye brings a great deal of credibility to our new firm and allows us to build on the track record that my team and I have established over the last 20 plus years investing in senior housing.”
